How to Wash Straight Up Southern Shirts | Shirt Care Guide

How to Care for Your Straight Up Southern Shirt

To keep your Straight Up Southern shirt looking good, wash it inside out in cold water, tumble dry low, and avoid high heat. Do not iron directly over the printed design. A little care goes a long way in protecting the fit, fabric, and print.

A good shirt ought to last.

Straight Up Southern shirts are made for everyday wear — workdays, weekends, lake trips, hunting camp, ballgames, and everything in between. To help your shirt keep its fit, feel, and printed design, follow a few simple care steps when washing and drying.

Best Way to Wash Your Shirt

For best results:

  • Turn the shirt inside out before washing
  • Wash with cold water
  • Use a mild detergent
  • Wash with like colors
  • Avoid bleach
  • Avoid heavy fabric softeners when possible

Turning your shirt inside out helps protect the printed design from unnecessary friction in the wash.

Best Way to Dry Your Shirt

For best results:

  • Tumble dry on low heat
  • Remove promptly from the dryer
  • Avoid high heat
  • Hang dry if you want to be extra careful

High heat is one of the biggest causes of extra shrinkage and print wear. Low heat helps preserve the fit and keeps the graphic looking better longer.

Can Straight Up Southern Shirts Shrink?

Many of our shirts are made with preshrunk cotton or cotton-blend fabrics, but a small amount of shrinkage can still happen with normal washing and drying.

To reduce shrinkage:

  • Wash cold
  • Tumble dry low
  • Avoid hot water
  • Avoid high dryer heat

If you are between sizes or prefer a roomier fit, we recommend sizing up.

How to Protect the Printed Design

Straight Up Southern shirts feature screen-printed designs made for regular wear. To help protect the print:

  • Wash inside out
  • Avoid bleach
  • Do not iron directly over the print
  • Avoid dry cleaning
  • Avoid high heat in the dryer

If ironing is needed, turn the shirt inside out or place a cloth between the iron and the printed area.

Care Tips by Shirt Type

Short Sleeve Tees

Most short sleeve tees do best with cold wash and low tumble dry. These are everyday shirts, but low heat will help protect the fit and print over time.

Long Sleeve Tees

Wash inside out with cold water and dry on low. Avoid over-drying to help preserve sleeve length and overall fit.

Pocket Tees

Pocket tees may have a slightly different fabric or weight depending on the style. Follow the product page care instructions when available, and use cold wash / low dry as your default.

Sweatshirts & Hoodies

Wash inside out with cold water. Tumble dry low or hang dry to help reduce shrinkage and preserve softness. Avoid high heat.
